Rock Climbing

We offer rock climbing adventures from a few hours to a few days at a range of superb natural rock crags. Experience the rock from the safety of a top rope or try lead climbing a sport route or progressing to placing your own protection.

ROCK EXTREME
This is for adrenaline junkies who want a chance to experience a guided multi-pitch (that’s more than 1 rope length) rockclimb.

Maximum number of people – 2 per time.

Some rockclimbing experience is preferable but not essential.

A pre-climb check out at The Crater or The Den may be advised.

Phone for costs and book a date.

White Water Rafting

Adventure Specialties Trust has a Maritime New Zealand approved white water rafting operation. Why not book a rafting adventure for your group.

THE WAIROA RIVER
Adventure Specialties Trust has over 15 years rafting experience on the Wairoa River.

The Wairoa river is a Class 5 river and contains large drops, fast currents and rapids requiring precise manoeuvring. With rapid names like Waterfall, Rollercoaster and Mothers Nightmare you are in for lots and lots of excitement.

Our rafts are designed for this water and our guides are all certified with the New Zealand Rafting Association. A full safety briefing and instruction on how to manoeuvre the raft as a team is given at the commencement of the trip.

Adventure Specialties Trust is a member of the New Zealand Rafting Association and certified to raft by the New Zealand Maritime Safety Authority.

The Wairoa River is hydro controlled and only open for certain days each year.

THE MOTU RIVER
The Motu River has always held a strong lure for people wanting to tackle a challenging river descent. Flowing for almost 90 kilometres through remote mountainous terrain with peaks rising to over 1200 metres, it pursues a course characterised by steep-sided gorges, swirling rapids, and rushing cascades before it spills out into the Bay of Plenty about 30 kilometres east of Opotiki.

The physical nature of the descent varies tremendously from rapids like Bulivants Cascade and the Double Staircase to the quiet reaches of the Mangaotane and Te Pakau Gorges.

One word characterises most of the Motu’s course through the Raukumara Ranges – REMOTE!!

CLARENCE RIVER
For those looking for a rafting expedition with that real wilderness feel but without too much hairy-scary stuff, the Clarence is your river.

Winding its way between the Inland and Seaward Kaikoura ranges, the Clarence begins near Hanmer Springs and ends at the Clarence Bridge north of Kaikoura. A real mountains to the sea trip. The river trip is over 200kms long and takes five days.

RIVER SURFING
Our Christchurch branch offers river surfing on the fantastic Hurunui River. This is a one day trip from Christchurch or can be done as part of a multi day, multi adventure programme based in North Canterbury.

Why not arrange a weekend with a visit to Hanmer Springs hot pools and some mountain biking thrown in.

WHITE WATER KAYAKING
We offer two – five day white water kayaking training including learning to roll, progressing from flat to moving water, and advanced river running skills. The Trust has an excellent fleet of play and creek boats.

SEA KAYAKING
We offer sea kayaking trips from 1 to 5 days or more in length. Locations include the Hauraki Gulf, Coromandel, Northland, Bays of Islands, as well as Lyttleton Harbour and Marlborough sounds in the South Island.

Mountaineering

Spend 5 days in the beautiful Volcanic Plateau region learning the skills required for mountaineering.

A great introduction course for those wanting to take up mountaineering, or those who just want more experience, or to extend their winter tramping skills into above bushline areas.

Weather permitting (and you will learn all about the weather) we will summit a peak or 2 and spend a night in a snow cave.

Caving

Scared of the dark?!! Then this adventures is probably not for you. Adventure Specialties Trust offers the chance for a caving adventure in a number of different locations. No board walks and fancy lighting here. Throw in a pair of overalls; strap on a helmet and lamp; lace up your boots and its all mud and glory – and some pretty spectacular cave formations.

Walk through caverns to crawly wet stuff – we have a cave suitable for your adventure needs.
